Test Engineering Team Leader

Pico Technology is a UK-based manufacturer of high-precision PC-based oscilloscopes and automotive diagnostics equipment, founded in 1991. Pico's product range includes the PicoScope line of PC-based oscilloscopes, data loggers, automotive equipment, and most recently, handheld USB-based oscilloscopes.

Due to continuous growth plans Pico Technology are looking to recruit a Test Engineering Manager, reporting to the Hardware Development Manager and working alongside the Development team and other key stakeholders, the task is to perform the development, evolution, implementation and maintenance of Pico’s existing production test system.

The role itself:

  • In a systems, hardware/software or component environment, carry out analysis, design activities development and testing, resulting in a contribution towards the evolution of Pico’s existing production test system (hardware, software and documentation)
  • As part of Pico’s quality function, work closely with other key stakeholders such as Design engineering, Sales, Operations and CEMs to deliver optimum production test solutions
  • Train & support CEMs as required as part of Pico’s NPI function
  • Manage their own and the test engineering team’s work packages in accordance with the New Product Development process schedule
  • Regular formal progress reporting
  • Ensure all test systems are at the correct build standard and 'in-cal’ with traceable certification
  • Coordinate and develop product Calibration certificates with key stakeholders as required
  • Statistical test data analysis

Skills required for the role:

  • Technical degree or diploma preferred but ability and experience within electronic product development/manufacture/design more important
  • Thorough understanding and proven experience in developing test methods for production test/calibration
  • Electronic product design experience preferred from within 2 or more of the following areas: mixed signal, rf, analogue, digital, software and/or firmware design. Firmware and software awareness will however, be an essential prerequisite
  • Test solution design/development from first principles
  • Understanding of metrology and the application of test solutions to traceable standards
  • Use of CAD/CAE tools
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and experience to identify improvements and influence/effect change
  • Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues
  • Good communication skills, team working and attitude with professional approach
  • Technical team man-management skills

Hardware Development Engineer

We are looking for a talented Hardware Development Engineer or a Software Engineer looking to move into Hardware, and who is looking to join an exciting team developing the next generation of pc-based oscilloscopes. We offer a stimulating environment with the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team of talented engineers. There will be ample opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute/learn new skills in digital and analogue electronics including FPGA/VHDL, schematic capture, PCB CAD, design analysis and 3D Modelling. Enthusiasm and a positive 'can do’ attitude is a pre-requisite.

The role itself:

  • Circuit design and simulation experience focused on digital and/or analogue/RF electronics
  • Understanding of circuit debugging and test methodologies
  • Experience with microcontrollers and/or embedded application processors/SoCs
  • Understanding of firmware and software interactions with microcontroller-based designs
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a cross-functional product design team
  • Documentation of design decisions and implementation trade-offs
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbally

Additionally, skills in any of the following will be of value:

  • Schematic capture and layout for complex high-speed mixed signal custom PCBs
  • Switch mode Power Supply (SMPS) design
    FPGA technology, especially VHDL and Xilinx Vivado using technologies such as Spartan, Kintex
  • Development of embedded firmware in C or C++
  • Digital Signal Processing and high-speed memory interfaces
  • Experience with standard lab equipment (i.e oscilloscopes or spectrum analysers) would be highly beneficial

Test Engineer (Electronics)

Pico Technology are looking to hire an Electronic Test Engineer to join the company. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Electronic Test Engineer’s main responsibilities include:

•      To test, troubleshoot and repair products and associated test equipment:

o      Returned by Customers

o      Supplied by off-site assemblers for investigation

o      Requiring quality and performance investigation

•      To provide technical support to the Contract Electronic Manufacturers (Assemblers), in relation to the test methods

The Electronics Test Engineer must have a positive attitude, professional demeanour and enjoy the work that they do.

Alongside these qualities the Electronics Test Engineer will also have:

•      Competent level of soldering skills

•      Understanding of the working practices at Contract Electronic Manufacturers

•      Good communication skills and diplomacy, able to interact with customers, suppliers and design teams as required

•      Awareness of test strategies and best practices with ‘Design For Test’

•      Able to read and understand schematics, layouts, BOM’s and other supporting diagnostic documentation
